A marketing genius is sought by vulnerable children. Children who have no access to their basic right to health, education and protection – they live on the streets, go hungry or are exploited through hazardous labour. Save the Children, Bal Raksha Bharat (BR) has helped millions of these vulnerable children to live their lives safe and free from exploitation. Millions more still need our help.

We’ve created an exciting new role in our Senior Management Team for an exceptional individual to lead a massive public and corporate fundraising initiative nationally. He/she will build a marketing team and have the ability to develop innovative and successful donor development schemes that will generate US$10 million annual income by 2012. It is no mean feat but the reward will be to play a part in the world’s largest independent movement for children.

He/she must have an excellent knowledge and experience in direct marketing principles such as relationship marketing, customer care, and segmentation. The incumbent will be a strategic thinker and able to maximise the return on investment to make us as cost effective as possible. You’ll also need 5-6 years proven success in a marketing management role.

The role will be based in Delhi and report to the CEO and contribute to organisational development across departments alongside the Senior Management Team. Job Purpose

To assist the CEO to develop and implement Marketing Strategy to raise substantial funds within India and abroad.

  • To cost effectively achieve an income in excess of US$10 million (Rs. 45 crore) from domestic sources per annum by 2014 - maximising the level of domestic public support for our work.
  • Implement and refine the current marketing strategy for Save the Children BR, working closely with the CEO, the Alliance Fundraising Team and other Save the Children organisations.
  • Investigate and develop new marketing activities to raise income and build support for Save the Children BR.
  • Be responsible for line management of staff as well as assessing the need for additional personnel to meet the objectives above. S/he will also make decisions on the relative balance between continued outsourcing and developing internal marketing capability.
Main responsibilities
  • Assist the CEO to develop the Save the Children marketing strategy to include clear RTM and channels, ensure that long-term growth targets are met.
  • To manage the marketing budget and ensure that controls are in place to monitor and report on income and expenditure.
  • Manage direct marketing agencies to recruit supporters as cost effectively as possible, primarily by gaining their long-term support.
  • Develop strategic links with agencies supplying direct marketing services such as list rental and data analysis to keep in touch with market trends.
  • Ensure agencies progress towards agreed targets through regular strategic and operational meetings and training. Motivate, inspire and challenge the agency teams to deliver powerful and relevant supporter communications. Seek to bring them closer to the work of Save the Children.
  • Continually enhance donor commitment through their increased understanding of Save the Children’s work, Develop messages and communications which best target them, devising segmentation parameters, frequency of communications and database modeling to predict response and lifetime value.
  • Develop new and existing fundraising communication channels and materials for various media: electronic and print.
  • Work with supporting Save the Children organisations and the Alliance Fundraising Team, in providing the agencies with materials such as case studies and photographs. Ensure that they are fully briefed on the work of Save the Children and on our international position on specific development issues.
  • To liaise with key supporters of Save the Children BR such as corporations, foundations or major individual donors, to build strong relationships and maximize their support.
  • Assessing the corporate, individual and the benevolent market in India, making proposals, presentations to the potential donors.
  • Manage fundraising / marketing events.
  • To ensure that all communications are consistent with the Save the Children brand and that Save the Children’s name and logo rights are protected at all times.
  • To promote the work of Save the Children – communicating, both internally and externally, in an accurate, sensitive and motivating fashion.
  • To ensure that all marketing activities comply with applicable law at all times, including compliance with data protection legislation
Educational Qualifications
Post Graduate Degree in Marketing/PR from a recognised institute
Experience 5 to 6 years of relevant experience in a competitive market environment.
Professional Competencies
  • Strong analytical ability and highly confident with budget preparation
  • Ability to develop long term plans and strategies, to analyze and assess performance and trends.
  • Experience of managing strategic marketing partners/suppliers to achieve agreed results.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in direct marketing management such as relationship marketing, customer care, and segmentation.
  • Experience of managing a significant direct marketing programme incorporating the recruitment, development and retention of supporters/customers.
  • An understanding of the Indian Not for Profit marketplace. Previous fundraising experience would be a strong advantage.
  • Strong business acumen, with an understanding of systems and procedures required to support an ambitious marketing initiative.
  • Ability to think laterally and respond rapidly to changing environments.
  • The ability to work effectively in, and provide support to, a small team. A full appreciation of the value of co-operation, both internationally and within a team environment.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload in a pressured environment, working to short and long-term objectives.
  • Excellent knowledge of Office IT packages: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Able to work effectively in Hindi and English: verbal and written fluency in both languages.
