PROS AND CONS OF FREQUENT CHANGING OF JOBS
Frequent changing of jobs, first of all impacts our own CV and career chart. From the HR perspective, too frequent changes raise the issue of integrity and lack of commitment to the employer. It is a situation compared to the ‘grasshopper’ who would like to jump on any available any opportunity to the nearest branch or a tree. How can you leave any job till you have contributed significantly to the organization in whatever functional area you are into.

Infact, it has happened in the past that CVs are rejected and not processed further just because the prospect has changed too many jobs in a short span of time. I know individuals who become disillusioned by any employer irrespective of the management style after 18 months. Now, it could be ok when you are young, not stable but once you cross the age of 30, every move has to be a career move and not just for the sake of money, designation or profile.

Yes, there are certain advantages, which are diluted in course of time, i.e. frequent changes normally are connected to change in pay packets and it is very likely that within a short span the salary hike could be substantial, may be twice or thrice over. Also remember, that whenever you change any job it is not you who is dislocated but it is your family too, which takes the impact.

When you change any job you have to once again switch on to new culture, premise, colleagues, management style and general environment. By the time you establish yourself and start feeling comfortable, you again change the job where you have to again go through the same process.

This is one side but the positive side is that there is no dull moment in your life. But are we looking for entertainment or a career. The call is yours. My advice or suggestion is to consolidate yourself and change only when you feel absolutely throttled and suffocated, which could be due to profile, internal politics, unfair appraisal or simply discomfiture, but still think twice over because of want solution, you will get it. Every problem has to be construed like a puzzle because there is no assurance or guarantee that the other organization would be an ideal place to work.

Organizational behaviour is common at all work places and there are no guarantees at all. Suggested reading “ If you want guarantees buy a toast”.

Best wishes….
